Authorities are investigating the death of 21-year-old Delquan Scott, who was found fatally shot outside an apartment building at 324 E. Montclair early Tuesday morning.
Springfield police responded to a report of gunfire at the complex around 7:10 a.m. on November 18, 2025. Officers arriving on scene located Scott, a Springfield resident, who had been shot and was pronounced dead where he was found. Police said his family has been notified.
Investigators quickly identified 23-year-old Deandre Jonas, also of Springfield, as the suspected shooter. Jonas was taken into custody at the scene. According to police, the two men knew each other. Jonas has since been booked into the Greene County Jail, and the case is expected to be forwarded to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office for review and potential charges.
The killing marks Springfield’s 10th homicide of 2025, underscoring persistent concerns about violent crime in the city. Detectives are continuing to piece together the circumstances leading up to the shooting and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
