A violent late‑night incident on Warren Avenue has left one woman dead and a man seriously injured, according to the Asheville Police Department.

Officers responded around 10:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, to assist EMS with a man found in the roadway suffering from severe injuries after being beaten. As police canvassed the area, they were directed to a nearby home where they discovered a woman who had been stabbed to death.

Authorities quickly identified Douglas Michael Stroupe, 32, as the suspect. He was arrested minutes later near the scene. Police confirmed Stroupe had been released from jail just seven days earlier after serving time for assaulting a government employee.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not yet released the identity of the woman killed. The incident has shaken the Asheville community, raising concerns about repeat offenders and public safety.
