The Tucson community is grieving the loss of Oscar Pedro Salazar, 33, who tragically passed away Sunday afternoon in a fatal traffic crash. Salazar was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision near South Sixth Avenue and East Michigan Drive around 3 p.m. on Dec. 7, leaving family, friends, and neighbors in deep sorrow.
According to the Tucson Police Department, Salazar was driving his Hyundai Elantra east on Michigan Drive when he proceeded from a stop sign and was struck by a northbound Ford Mustang on Sixth Avenue. Witnesses and evidence gathered at the scene indicated that the Mustang was traveling above the posted speed limit. The driver of the Mustang remained at the scene and was evaluated by an officer, who determined that they were not impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
Traffic detectives later identified excessive speed by the Mustang as the primary factor in the collision. Salazar, described by loved ones as a kind and vibrant individual, padded away far too soon, leaving a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
Authorities have not yet issued charges or citations, and the investigation is ongoing. Officials are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact the Tucson Police Department or call 88-CRIME anonymously.
Family and friends are remembering Oscar Pedro Salazar for the joy, warmth, and kindness he shared with everyone around him. Though his life was tragically cut short, the memories of his presence and the impact he had on his community will endure. The Tucson community continues to mourn his untimely passing and sends condolences to all who are grieving this heartbreaking loss.
