Lafayette County, Florida Accident: 20-year-old Mayo man killed Tuesday night rollover crash on County Road 536

A 20-year-old man from Mayo was killed late Tuesday night following a violent rollover crash in Lafayette County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The fatal incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on County Road 536, near NE Edward Perry Lane.

In an early Wednesday morning press release, FHP reported that the young man had been driving westbound on County Road 536 when his vehicle drifted off the roadway and entered the south grass shoulder. Investigators say that moments after leaving the paved surface, the vehicle overturned, rolling along the shoulder with enough force to eject the driver.

Troopers confirmed that the man, who was not named pending notification of additional relatives, was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

FHP noted that the man’s next of kin has been notified.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding what may have caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway, and the crash remains under investigation. Troopers will continue examining evidence from the scene to determine whether speed, impairment, road conditions, or other factors played a role.

The fatal crash has left the Mayo community grieving the sudden loss of a young life. As investigators work to piece together the events leading up to the rollover, FHP is reminding all drivers to remain attentive behind the wheel, consistently use seatbelts, and exercise caution—especially late at night when visibility and road awareness can be reduced.
